After the end of the season in Ukraine as a result of the Russian attack, center Sean Evans switched to Bundesliga basketball team ratiopharm Ulm. The 33-year-old American recently played for the Ukrainian league leaders and Champions League participants BC Prometey Kamianske, as the Ulm company announced on Monday. According to the club, Evans had traveled to Athens after the outbreak of the war with the hope of finding a new club.

With the signing, Ulm also reacted to the injury-related absence of former NBA professional Cristiano Felicio from Brazil. Evans, who used to play for Göttingen, is not eligible to play in the international Eurocup due to the expired transfer period.

At 33, the 2.03-metre-tall American doesn’t quite fit the Ulm philosophy, but with his experience and the young centers Philipp Herkenhof and Nicolas Bretzel (both 22 years old) should intercept Felicio’s failure. Sports director Thorsten Leibenath commented on the club’s website about the new signing: “After Cris’ injury, there was a need to strengthen the team in terms of rebounding and defensive presence.” With Sean they have committed a very experienced player. “He won’t need much time to get used to it,” Leibenath is certain.
