The severe weather conditions in Lille inspired Toon Aerts to immediately put the string on it from the start.

The leader in the X²O trophy dived into the field first and immediately put Laurens Sweeck and brother Thijs within a handful of seconds. Eli Iserbyt had a poor start and was riding in the middle of the pack.

Despite the heavy surface, Aerts felt like a fish in water. The Telenet Baloise Lions rider pulled out big hits and completely destroyed the opposition. Halfway through the race, his lead was more than half a minute.

The battle for second place seemed to turn into a meeting between Sweeck and Vanthourenthout, until the young Niels Vandeputte suddenly joined.

The young promise completely cracked the red-black duo and finished in the shadow of an impressive Aerts in a handsome 2nd place.

Due to the complete offday of Iserbyt (15th), Aerts is now also certain of the final win in the X²O trophy. Next week’s round in Brussels is therefore only about the stage victory.

Aerts: “This victory is for the people who are constantly working with me”

Toon Aerts (1st): “This is a victory for the people who are constantly working with me. The mechanics and the physiotherapist I have been with all week. At the end of the season they are still there. Today my brother Thijs (7th) proves that he’s really a motocross rider and I hope he’s still a pro next year.”

Niels Vandeputte (2nd): “I surprised myself a bit. Yesterday I also had a good feeling and that gave me hope for today. It was a course that had nothing to do with tactics and it just came down to driving. done and in the end I finish second. I still can’t believe it.”

Lars van der Haar (3rd): “I didn’t feel very well in the beginning. It just didn’t go well, but in the end I got the right legs. Michael (Vanthourenhout) had bad luck, which is a shame for him and then you just drive for 3rd place. I knew I shouldn’t start from the front and at the end Tom (Meeusen) fell silent, so I could still get over it.”
