Tennis star donates prize money to the Ukraine army – Sportmix

Tennis ace Elina Switolina is donating the prize money she has won to the army and the people of her native Ukraine.

World-class Ukrainian tennis player Elina Switolina has announced that she will donate her prize money from the upcoming tournaments to the armed forces and the population of her home country Ukraine, which is under Russian attack.

“I pledge to pass on the prize money from my upcoming tournaments to support the army and humanitarian needs and to help defend you, our country,” Switolina tweeted in a “letter to my homeland”.

Switolina is married to tennis star Gael Monfils. With ex-Thiem trainer Günter Bresnik, she completed parts of the pre-season in Tenerife.

Switolina, currently number 15 in the world, continued: “I’m far from you at the moment, far from my loved ones, far from my people, but my heart is completely filled with you. I’m devastated, my Eyes don’t stop crying, my heart keeps bleeding. I am Ukraine, we are Ukraine.”
