Record shooter Aleksandar Mitrovic does not stop: “We are now seeing a different version” | football england

Aleksandar Mitrovic is simply unstoppable this season. The Fulham Serb scored his 32nd and 33rd rose of the season in The Championship, the English second division, yesterday. Nota bene in 30 matches.

On 14 match days before the end, he has kicked the record of Ivan Toney – last year with Brentford good for 31 goals – of the tables.

“We’re seeing a Mitrovic this year who believes in himself and the coach (Marco Silva) believes in him too,” explains Jack Collins of the Fulhamish Podcast.

“Last year he didn’t really get his chance in the Premier League, but now Fulham are playing in a system that makes the most of his qualities.”

“He used to be more the target man, the number 9 who didn’t move too much and was therefore quite static.”

“Now we see a different version, an attacker who is much more involved in the game. You can also see that in his frequent assists.”

“He will never be the fastest man on the field, but he understands all facets better. He knows where to run and where to give the others space.”

Harry Wilson and Fabio Carvalho get along just fine. “Mitrovic has become selfless. His mates look to him when the opportunity comes because they know he will score.”

In the Premier League last year did not go smoothly. Fulham were relegated, Mitrovic was more on the bench under Scott Parker than he liked.

“He is better surrounded now and there is a better relationship with the trainer. He was a bit frustrated with the tactical plan last season. There were no goals and yet he did not play. That excited him as a striker.”

Fulham have a bonus of 9 points on 14 match days from the end. Promotion cannot really escape them, unless Mitrovic would drop out of course.

“You should always worry if your talisman falls out,” says the Fulham watcher. “They will hold every bit of wood in the world, but Mitrovic doesn’t seem injury prone.”

“If you also take away his goals, Fulham has still scored more than the other teams. So it is not a team that depends on one player.”
