Xalapa, Veracruz.- The news portal specialized in Gender Equity “Purple Witness” and the journalist and blogger, Alejandro Ávila denounced on their social networks that the board of directors of Halcones Xalapa resorts to the “sexualization” of their players to spread the start of the 2022 season in its women’s modality.

In the Halcones Xalapa press chat, its spokesman, Jaír García, asked the various journalists that make up that group to “use” the images of the players in swimsuits and in suggestive poses to publicize the feathered team. Previously, García was press officer for the State Attorney General’s Office, and for a decade a journalist for the newspaper La Jornada Veracruz.

In two months the first professional women’s championship of the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP) will begin; The board of directors of Halcones Xalapa is in the midst of recruiting its roster, however, the lack of tact in disseminating its new players has led to angry protests on social networks by feminist groups.

In a statement, the board of directors of Halcones Xalapa denied that their intention had been to “sexualize” their players and new recruits, pondering that support for women and “respect” for gender equality is one of their “main objectives” for having agreed to incorporate a women’s team into the professional league.

Regarding the dissemination of the controversial photographs, the Halcones Xalapa board promised an “exhaustive and in-depth investigation” to take the pertinent actions.

One of the main contracts that the feathered team has made will be Paola “Koby” Beltrán, who is nationally selected and considered one of the five best basketball players in Mexico.

Ana Karen Ramírez, Rosaura Guardiola and Kasandra Hernández, complement up to now the four players who have been presented as the base of the team that will play in the Usbi Gymnasium of the Veracruzana University. (Noah Zavaleta/Apro).
