Mekies satisfied with Ferrari test days: ‘A laundry list of things to analyze’

Ferrari managed to stand out in a positive way during the test days in Barcelona. On every day the Italian was one of the fastest constructors and on Thursday Charles Leclerc was the fastest driver of the bunch. Moreover, in terms of reliability, everything was fine with the Ferrari team. This allowed Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz to complete many laps for their team over the three days.

At this stage of the season, data collection is the most important thing for the stables. With 439 laps, Ferrari was the most productive team of the test days in Barcelona. “Overall, it was three good days of testing,” Ferrari director Laurent Mekies said FormulaPassion† “We managed to do a lot of laps. We have completed our programs and we are very satisfied with that.’

With the laps driven, Leclerc and Sainz were able to collect a lot of data for their team. Due to the changes in regulations, it is crucial to analyze this data properly. “It was important to carefully test the reliability of the F1-75. So of course we had to do quite a few laps. After that, it is important to look at all the other parts of our car. That ranges from aerodynamic structure to small rubber parts of the car.’

Mekies: ‘Test days also important for Leclerc and Sainz’

‘We have a laundry list of things to analyze’, continues Mekies. The Frenchman sees that the kilometers on the circuit are also crucial for the drivers. “It’s important to put them behind the wheel so they can get used to a completely new car. We have managed to distribute the burden well among our drivers. It was also an important warm-up for them to get a feel for a real track again’, concludes Mekies.
