Jefferson Farfan: Ex-Schalke stirs up South America – FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL

A story for all football romantics!

17 years had passed since Schalke legend Jefferson Farfán (37/played for Pott-Klub from 2008 to 2015) left the nest and flew out into the wide world. Last year, the Peruvian returned to his old place of work at Alianza Lima.

This is where the winger spent his first professional years (2001 to 2004) before moving to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

At the traditional Peruvian club Alianza Lima (24-time league champions) things have gone haywire in recent years. On the one hand, this was due to the corona pandemic and its consequences for the football industry. But while things were going downhill economically, things weren’t going well in terms of sport either.

Alianza was relegated by surprise in the 2020/21 season. In desperation, those responsible asked Farfán, who was now without a club, who could ensure direct promotion. But he has no desire to play in the second division.

Suddenly, there is a crazy twist. Alianza is suing Carlos Stein. This is the club that was just able to keep the first division. The reason for the lawsuit: like some other Peruvian clubs, Stein does not always pay his social security contributions on time. The FPF association has always punished this with a fine, also out of understanding for the financial problems under the Corona circumstances. However, the rules provide for a deduction of two points.

The lawsuit makes it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – and will ultimately be granted. So the club can now keep the class, Jefferson Farfán is committed.

The final act: Farfán will sign his contract in March 2021. The prodigal son scores his first goal in the very first game – at the same time the winning goal. A successful final chord of a crazy story.

Allianza is currently sixth in the table and has been able to stabilize his performances again. Also thanks to Farfán.
