International arrest warrant for Robinho after rape conviction | football

The chance that Brazil will hand over the now 38-year-old Robinho to Italy is very small, because the Brazilian constitution prohibits the extradition of nationals. But he could be arrested under the international arrest warrant if he left Brazil.

Robinho was sentenced to nine years in prison in Italy for taking part in a gang rape of a 22-year-old Albanian woman at a Milan nightclub in January 2013, while playing for AC Milan.

The Brazilian has always denied the allegations, but the sentence was first confirmed on appeal and finally confirmed in January by the Italian Court of Cassation.

The Milan prosecutor’s office sent an international arrest warrant and an extradition request to the Justice Ministry in Rome on Tuesday. That will forward the documents to Brazil, the Italian news agency ANSA said.

Robinho wanted to make a comeback at his youth club Santos in October 2020, but after protests from supporters and sponsors, the contract was quickly dissolved. The striker then stopped playing football
