Barça: Bartomeu in prison for signing Griezmann?

The catastrophic management of the former president of FC Barcelona is officially pinned on Tuesday, with serious consequences envisaged.

It’s easy enough to say with hindsight, but FC Barcelona have made many bad choices in recent years. Since the sale of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for 222 million euros, the money raised has been spent in no time, to bring in Coutinho, Dembélé or Griezmann, each time with resounding sporting and financial failures. Even when the Catalan club was already out of breath economically, it made copious purchases to try to revive the machine. This has caused colossal debts, exceeding one billion euros, but which does not prevent the new president, Joan Laporta, from being as aggressive by also spending in the transfer window.

Bartholomew in court?

Laporta is also on the offensive at the legal level, since the Spanish newspaper El Periodico announces that Barca have decided to file a complaint with the Barcelona Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, as a result of the internal investigation into the management of the former president, Josep Maria Bartomeu. The result of this investigation is revealed this Tuesday, February 1 to the socios, but the Catalan club has taken the lead in accusing its former boss of three serious faults and liable to criminal sanctions: unfair administration, forgery and use of forgery.

After the announcement, the details are revealed and two transfers are in particular in question. The purchase of Malcom from Bordeaux for 40 million euros, and that of Antoine Griezmann from Atlético de Madrid for 120 million euros. Crazy and illegal commissions would have been paid, and in particular in the deal for the French striker, who saw a lawyer close to Bartomeu, Gonzalez Franco, pocket 7 million euros in the process. The prosecution must now decide on the results of the internal investigation, and if these suspicions are proven, this could therefore add a trial for Bartomeu. The former president is already prosecuted in the famous Barçagate, where he paid with the money of the Blaugrana club from the agencies to spam and spit on the players on social networks.
