15-year-old IOC skater Valiyev doping saga settled on Monday – Beijing 2022

A hearing in videoconference format will be held on Sunday, at which the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hear the case and the decision will be published on Monday.

It has already been reported that the International Testing Agency (ITA) has confirmed that the presence of the cardiological drug trimetazidine in a sample of Valiyev tests taken on December 25 and the Russian anti-doping agency RUSADA were immediately suspended.

The young athlete appealed the decision on Wednesday. On the same day, the complaint was investigated and the RUSDA Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee decided to lift the temporary disqualification that would allow Valiev to compete in the Beijing Olympic Figure Skating Competition for women, which will start on Tuesday and is her favorite.

For their part, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), with the assistance of the International Skating Union (ISU), will appeal the decision to revoke the temporary disqualification from the CAS.

Trimetazidine is a metabolite used to treat angina and dizziness. WADA has included it in the Prohibited List because it can increase circulatory efficiency and endurance.

The KOK team, which featured the duo Anastasia Misharina / Alexander Gallamov and Victoria Sinicin / Nikita Kacalapov, as well as Kamila Valiev and Mark Kondratyuk, won a gold medal in teams at the Beijing Olympic Figure Skating Championships on Monday.

However, the award ceremony originally scheduled for Tuesday did not take place.

15-year-old Valiyev triumphed in her first adult season at the European Figure Skating Championships.

Russian athletes do not start with their flag and anthem at the Olympic Games, but as representatives of the IOC. Such a ban has been imposed on Russia in connection with past doping rule violations and manipulation of analyzes.
