Women’s Basketball Pisa “The trend is satisfactory”

PISA. Between postponements and recoveries, before the stop of the women’s Serie C championship due to Covid, at the end of 2021 the Pisa Women’s Basketball was restarted, the only city basketball reality “in pink”. After a year and a half without official matches, the five matchdays of the team of Sergio Ferro.

The time to start the second round and then the Christmas break, expanded by the pandemic. Among understandable difficulties, the Rossocrociata formation is still clinging to the leading band, with 6 points in fourth place, the last one that at the end of the regular season will give access to the promotion phase for the jump in B. An almost certain position, since behind the team of the capital the cousins Bellaria Cappuccini Pontedera and Pomarance are nailed to zero, even if they have to recover their direct challenge.

Laura Guerrini, president of Pf Pisa, is generally satisfied: «In my opinion the balance is positive. Physically we are getting back in shape thanks to the work of Francesca Ferri. Good inclusion of the under 19s. At the moment the results are a secondary objective. We want to grow younger girls, bringing enthusiasm to the gym. Unfortunately, the new wave of Covid has brought us back to our knees. The championship is blocked and it is not known if it will actually restart ».

The three victories all came in the provincial derby: in the two matches with Pontedera and at table on Pomarance, who did not appear at the match scheduled in Pisa. «The strongest teams – comments Guerrini – are Porcari, Viareggio and Montecatini. Immediately after we come, who have played with the first, faced all away. In the second round we will therefore have the home factor on our side. We needed some time to insert the new arrivals. We note a good participation and a good harmony with the coach Sergio Ferro ».

A look at the other quintets lined up by the rossocrociata club: «The Under 19 team, led by Cinzia Piazza, it’s going fine. Unfortunately we have two injured girls. We hope to recover them quickly, because the squad is short. With the Under 15 we are paying enormously for the two years of inactivity, but with the coach Michele Masi we are recovering the right competitive attitude, even if we have not yet found the first victory. We have a younger team, entrusted to Simone Landini. We hope to be able to put it to the test in 2022 in a few games ».

If the interruption of the women’s C is not prolonged, Pf Pisa will return to the field on January 27 in Pomarance. But the Covid framework does not grant certainties: «I don’t know if the break will be enough to improve the situation – admits Guerrini – we are trying to continue training. We expect some positivity to emerge. Unfortunately, to regain competitive fitness, at least a month must pass and our squads are counted ».
