Mesut Özil is already planning for the time after his career. According to “Bild am Sonntag”, the former international wants to buy a Turkish third division club. The price shouldn’t be a problem for Özil, who once earned 400,000 euros a week.
Mesut Özil leads Fenerbahce Istanbul as captain on the field this season. The 33-year-old moved to Turkey last winter and quickly became the club’s great hope. But the former German international has been showing average performance for months and has repeatedly struggled with injury problems. In the Süper League he scored seven goals in 16 games, in the Europa League he was only used in two games. Özil’s career seems to be beyond its zenith.
He’s probably already planning the future for that. According to information from “Bild am Sonntag”, Özil wants to buy the Turkish club Corum FK. The third division club has been without leadership since last week, when President Fatih Özcan resigned from office.
“A world-famous player from Turkey is interested in buying the club,” Özcan said at a press conference at which he announced his withdrawal. Özcan is allegedly demanding 20 million Turkish lira for his club. Özil, who once earned 400,000 euros per week at Arsenal FC, could easily afford the equivalent of 1.3 million euros.
“The contact came through Irfan Can Kahveci, who plays with Özil at Fenerbahce and comes from Corum. He called Özcan and asked about the details, ”said Corum’s captain Umut Kaya to“ Bild am Sonntag ”.
Corum is only in sixth place
Corum had declared promotion to the second division as a goal before the season. But the team is playing far below expectations and after 19 match days is sixth in the table with just 34 points.
Özil, who made 92 international matches for the German national team, was world champion in 2014 and played for Real Madrid and Arsenal, among others, would give the club from the Anatolian Black Sea region shine.
