Toko Ekambi sends Cameroon to the semi-finals, no feat for Gambia

Gambia-Cameroon 0-2
Cameroun: K.Toko-Ekambi (50e, 57e)

The competition continues for the host country! Considered the big favorite of the match, Cameroon did not tremble this Saturday against the surprising Gambia team. From the first minutes of play, the Indomitable Lions showed themselves dominating, confiscating the ball and playing most of the time in the opposing camp; to the point, logically, of obtaining several dangerous situations, in particular through the intermediary of the very restless Vincent Aboubakar. The most prominent player in this first act, the top scorer of this African Cup of Nations (6 goals) thought he opened the scoring with an overpowering header following a cross from the right, but it was without counting on the exceptional reflex parade of Baboucarr Gaye (36th). The two teams thus returned to the locker room with a clean score.

After the break, Cameroon decided to accelerate. If Vincent Aboubakar was particularly illustrated during the first period, the second half saw Karl Toko-Ekambi shine. The Cameroonian striker first released his own with a magnificent crossed header, on a cross from the right distilled by Collins Fai (50e). Before scoring a second goal; this time with a flat right foot following a magnificent serve from Martin Hongla (57e). The Scorpions tried their luck in the last part of the match, multiplying the changes. But this Saturday, the step was too high for Tom Saintfiet and his men whose course, for the first participation of Gambia in the competition, is more than honorable. Thus, Cameroon logically qualified for the rest of the competition. In the semi-finals, the host country will face the winner of the opposition between Egypt and Morocco.
