The 24-year-old from Eastern Switzerland acted extremely confidently with her own service and won 36 out of 46 points. In the first set she took the serve from her opponent to 3: 1, in the second set to 2: 1 and 4: 1. After 70 minutes she used the first match point. The two played against each other for the first time.
Bencic, who started the season a week later than planned due to a corona illness, will face French qualifier Oceane Dodin (WTA 96) in the round of 16. This defeated the Mexican Giuliana Olmos (WTA 685) 6: 4, 6: 1. The duel against Dodin is also a premiere for Bencic.
Teichmann loses angrily
In Adelaide, Teichmann (WTA 37) did not live up to its role as a favorite. The 24-year-old from Biel lost to American qualifier Lauren Davis (WTA 95) 6: 1, 6: 7 (3: 7), 4: 6 in the opening game. Australian Open qualification started
