We know more about the sanctions imposed by FIFA in the Pape Gueye case (22 years old, 15 appearances in L1 this season)! As we told you on Friday (see here), the midfielder was suspended because of his about-face in 2020, when the former Le Havre, despite signing a pre-contract, left Watford to join Olympique de Marseille! According to information from the daily L’Equipe, the Senegalese was thus suspended for 4 months.
But that’s not all because the Marseille club was also sanctioned. Sentenced to pay 2.5 million euros to the English team, OM were banned from recruiting for two consecutive transfer windows! A sanction which should take effect next summer. However, the rather confident Marseille president Pablo Longoria intends to appeal, which would be suspensive, of this sanction before the Court of Arbitration for Sport with a verdict then expected between 3 and 6 months.
