NFL: New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman retires

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman announced his retirement on Monday.

The team announced that the search for a replacement will begin immediately.

Gettleman joined the Giants in 2018 after serving as general manager of the Carolina Panthers (2013-16). In its four seasons, Carolina was 40-23-1 and won three consecutive division titles. In 2015, Carolina finished with a 15-1 record and qualified for the Super Bowl. Gettleman was on seven Super Bowl teams, including three winners – the Denver Broncos in 1997 and the Giants in 2007 and 2011.

Gettleman initially joined the Giants in the spring of 1998 as an assistant to the personnel manager during the time of Tim Rooney. He was promoted to Director of Professional Personnel in the spring of 1999 upon Rooney’s retirement. Gettleman remained in office for 13 years. In 2012, he was the team’s senior professional staff analyst.
