EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The New York Giants have hired Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen to fill their position as general manager.

Co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch confirmed the information on Friday, just over a week after beginning the process in which they met with nine candidates in the first round, and three in the second.

“Throughout the process, Joe impressed us with his ability to communicate his modern and structured vision for our team,” said Mara. His philosophy and collaborative approach to building our roster and coaching staff is what we expect of a general manager. »

Schoen got the job at the expense of San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters and Kansas City Chiefs executive director responsible for athletic personnel Ryan Poles.

Schoen will have a lot to do in the process of rebuilding the New York club. The Giants have made the playoffs only once since winning the Super Bowl in February 2012. They have reached the 10-game losing streak in five consecutive seasons, including the just-ended 4-13 season.

His first goal will be to find a replacement for head coach Joe Judge, who was fired last week after going 10-23 the past two seasons. The hiring process is expected to begin next week.
