New Year’s barrels, 400 dogs and cats dead. D’Agata: “It’s a massacre”

Anyone who has an animal that suffers from the fear of fireworks and explosive barrels knows: there is no hug or shelter that holds. Not even the closeness of those who love them can reassure them. It is as if they had the experience of being under a bombardment in wartime. And every year there are many victims among animals for this increasingly foolish form of human entertainment. And that’s exactly what happened this year for at least 400 dogs and cats who literally died of fear. And hundreds fled in fright.

However, many animals were sheltered in homes or stables.

This is the tragic outcome of the New Year’s Eve for the Italian Association for the Defense of Animals and the Environment.

But the one provided by the organization risks being only a partial balance of the New Year’s Eve just passed. In addition, hundreds of animals could be escaped from their homes precisely because they were frightened by the roar of barrels and fireworks.

The peak of animals hit to death by bombs and firecrackers was recorded in Calabria and Sicily.

“Unfortunately, we can only cry with a broken heart because we can not do anything” commented Giovanni D’Agata, president of the “Rights Desk”. And to make these stories even more heartbreaking are the images they see on social media with animals alongside the human family, almost in a desperate attempt to protect them. By sharing the posts, it is an opportunity to point the finger at those who have not yet understood how much animals suffer from this human tradition. The “families” are distressed and powerless in the face of such injustice. These families have lost a component, a precious component. Their pet, their friend … What else do you need to happen to understand that is wrong? We will never tire of repeating it: “no to fireworks”.
