After Peter Wright and Alan Soutar, Gary Anderson also made it into the round of 16 of the Darts World Cup. The Scots counter the English fans with it. In general, the British dominate the tournament as they have not for 18 years.

Et is the song of this World Darts Championship. In addition to classics such as “Stand up, if you love the darts”, “Taylor Wonderland” or the request not to have to go home yet (“Please, don’t take me home”), a prophecy is given above all in the Alexandra Palace crashed through the hall: “Scotland get battered, everywhere they go!”

The Scots are beaten wherever they are. No matter where you go, there is no escape for you. So much for the translation of the short lyrics.

A look at the national ranking shows that volume does not always have to be synonymous with truth. Of the four Scots who started, three are still in the tournament after the third round: Peter Wright, Gary Anderson and Alan Soutar are in the round of 16 on Thursday. Anderson won the last third round game of the tableau on Wednesday evening 4: 3 against the Englishman Ian White. Scotland also won the World Cup in 2021 with Wright and John Henderson.

The only Scot who has actually been batteryed so far is William Borland. And the 25-year-old not only made it into the second round on his debut, but also threw a nine-darter in his victory over Bradley Brooks in the decision leg – the most memorable moment of this World Cup so far.

Only three round of 16 not from the island

The English have reason to cheer, due to the Corona situation this year largely among themselves in the Ally Pally, but still. Eight of their compatriots have made it into the last 16.
