Luis Díaz, best player in Portugal for O Jogo

Colombians in Portugal continue to make their mark. The newspaper O Jogo published the best XI of the year 2021 and the most outstanding player by a vote of its readers. The Porto winger, Luis Díaz, was the great chosen, while Matheus Uribe entered the ideal team.

Diaz’s great performance last season and the numbers he is showing so far in 2021-22 have put him above the rest in his league. With 64.7% of the votes, he won the distinction of best player, beating 11% from Coates (Sporting) and 8.5% from Rafa (Benfica).

Similarly, he was the winner of the best left winger position with 92.2%, beating Nuno Santos and Ricardo Horta. It was the highest percentage obtained by any of those who entered the ideal XI.

For his part, Matheus was the second best front-line midfielder in the Portuguese tournament. The former America of Mexico had a total of 68.5% of the votes, only below Palinha, one of the great figures of Sporting Lisbon.

The 2021 dream team is made up of six players from Porto, four from Sporting and one from Benfica in a 4-3-3 scheme. These were the chosen ones: Diogo Costa; Grimaldo; Pepe, Coates, Porro; Uribe, Palinha, Witinha; Díaz, Taremi and Pedro Goncalves.
