LIDOM congratulates the Cibaeñas Eagles for their 89th anniversary

EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) congratulated the Águilas Cibaeñas Baseball Club franchise on Monday for reaching the 89th anniversary of its foundation.

Through a press document, the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, on behalf of the League’s Board of Directors, stated that the Águilas Cibaeñas are an emblem of the highest level in Dominican baseball activity and that it has also managed to establish itself as one of the best teams in that sport in the entire Latin American region.

Mejía Ortiz affirmed that reaching the eighty-ninth anniversary represents a strong commitment to perseverance, discipline, ability and attachment to the best interests of baseball, but it also shows that throughout its history it has been a franchise run by men and women of great value and significance.

The squad was founded on January 2, 1933 as Santiago Baseball Club, but four years later, in 1937, it adopted the name Águilas Cibaeñas.

This organization has won 22 autumn-winter baseball championships and has accumulated six Caribbean Series trophies, an event of which it is the current champion.

Mejía Ortiz particularly congratulated the leadership of the Eagles in the person of its president Quilvio Hernández, its operations staff, its players and its great national fan base, which he considered one of the most numerous in the country.
