Leicester players cause commotion after visit to ‘corona bomb’ World Cup Darts

James Maddison, Hamza Choudhury and Harvey Barnes broke tongues in England on Saturday night. The Leicester City players decided to spend an evening watching the World Cup Darts, but then received the necessary criticism after the many corona infections at the Premier League clubs in recent weeks.

Michael van Gerwen had to leave the World Darts Championship soon after a positive corona test. The Dutch darts player criticized the corona policy during the largest darts tournament in the world and stated that the Alexandra Palace – where the tournament is organized – is a ‘corona bomb’. That didn’t stop Choudhury, Maddison, and Barnes from going there for an evening.

“The access control for the fans is just not strong enough,” said Van Gerwen after his forced shutdown in conversation with RTL. “It’s just one big corona bomb in there now. It’s as leaky as a basket, and I couldn’t help it. That makes it so sour.”

Maddison, Barnes and Choudhury should have played with Leicester against Norwich City on New Year’s Day, but due to a large number of infections at The Canaries that game was postponed. It paved the way for the three players to spend an evening watching darts in London. Despite the high number of corona infections due to the omikron variant, the World Cup remains ‘just’ open to the public.
