Masahiro Kimura, who coaches players from elementary school students to professional baseball players as a performance coordinator, says that there are many parents and children who have trouble with their career paths, such as sixth graders who are worried about whether the junior high school team is hard or soft. In the First-Pitch series “Select Design” related to the course of youth baseball, Mr. Kimura introduces two guidelines that should not be shaken.

From the 4th and 5th grades of elementary school, you may be consulted about the course of junior high school. Is it okay to continue playing baseball next year? Will you switch to a cram school and prepare for the exam? In junior high school, baseball, baseball, club activities, club teams … No one knows what the future holds, so we have to decide our course. The more choices you have, the more confusing you are, and the more information you have, the more you worry that the information is still inadequate.
How can we make the best choice … In complicated and uncertain situations, I have been taught that “think by subtraction”. Subtraction is not to think that it is important, but to think about what is the most important thing and what kind of thinking should be kept in mind. To do this, it is important to get in touch with the findings based on scientific research.
I would like to introduce two things that I have learned. One is to value social learning. The other is to think with “width”. Social learning means learning through contact with people, and there is research that people are greatly influenced by people when making choices. One of the means is to get real information by having older brothers teach how they are working on their careers in the baseball team community, or by visiting a sports academy like us. It is one.
