Historic: New York Yankees announce first female manager

Rachel Balkove will serve as manager at the Low-A branch of the Yankees.

Major League Baseball continue to break the paradigms in terms of inclusion of the female gender. A sample of this is that the New York Yankees amounted to Rachel Balkovec as manager in Minor Leagues.

Balkovec, 43 years old, will take command of the Tampa Tarpons, in the Low-A class. In this way, it becomes the first woman to lead an organization of the majors.

The pilot was a softball catcher in the Creighton University and the University of New Mexico. Since 2019 it served as Yankees hitting coach, in the Florida Complex League.

Balkovec’s trajectory

Rachel Balkovec has extensive experience on the mechanics of swing and hip movements of pitchers. Also has two master’s degrees in the science of human movement.

In 2012 it became the first female instructor full time in a MLB affiliated team, when she served as a strength and conditioning coach for the St. Louis Cardinals in the Minor Leagues.

Four years later left for the Houston Astros, as strength and conditioning coordinator for Latin America. This position was held in the Corpus Christi Hooks, in Doble A.

When COVID-19 caused the suspension of the 2020 campaign in Las Menores, Balkovec was on the Australian ball. He was also on the technical staff of the Future Stars Game which was played last year.
