17-year-old Genevieve Beacom made baseball history. The left-handed pitcher became the first woman to play in the Australian Baseball League (ABL). Beacom is a pitcher for the Melbourne Aces.

The 17-year-old pitched for one inning in which she allowed no hits or a run against the Adelaide Giants at Melbourne Park. Despite their performance, the Melbourne Aces lost 7-1 to Adelaide.

Under the applause and shouts of the fans, they applauded the Australian who made winter baseball history in that country. “If anyone thinks this is just a token selection then they have to think again because she has earned her place 100% on the development roster with the Melbourne Aces,” coach Pete Moylan said of her arrival on the team.

“It was really good to be there and pitch against them and feel that kind of experience. I thank all the coaches who helped me reach this level and especially my brother, who since day one has supported me and has been my inspiration and I am here for him ”Beacom said after his first outing in the Australian Baseball League.

Beacom also sent a message of support to all women and girls who want to play sports to motivate themselves and show that it is possible.

“If someone pressures you or tells you that you can’t play a sport, don’t listen to them. Do what you want and if you work hard you can go very far and make it possible ”, said the young Australian.
