France welcomes Djokovic to participate in Roland Garros even if he is not vaccinated

The French sports minister, Roxana Maracineanu, has confirmed that the Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic Yes you can play the next edition of Roland Garros, held from May 16 to June 5, 2022, even if you are not vaccinated against COVID-19, a reason that will prevent him -a priori- from participating in the Australian Open from next week.

Maracineanu recalled that, according to French legislation, unvaccinated athletes may participate in major competitions because “the health bubble of these great sporting events will allow it”, said the minister in declarations to ‘France info’.

“This is what will allow someone like Novak Djokovic in France to enter our territory”added the minister after the cancellation of Djokovic’s visa for not meeting the vaccination requirements against COVID-19 in Australia. The Serbian is still awaiting a final decision from the country’s justice that will be known next Monday.

However, the French minister recalled that a meeting with the Interministerial Crisis Committee (CIC) is scheduled for next Monday “to concretely redefine, precisely, competition by competition, what may happen in the coming weeks” regarding this matter and the possible sports exemptions for unvaccinated athletes in major competitions held in France.
