Former National Team Doctor Answers the Danger of Fried Food Criticized by Marco Motta

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Persija star from Italy Marco Motta said the food in Indonesia is too much fried and not good for a professional athlete.

This was revealed by the former Juventus player in the Persija video interview on the Youtube channel. Motta said fried food is not good for footballers who are playing in competitions.

“I am a little [mencoba makanan Indonesia]. You know why? Because I’m a soccer player. I can’t eat carelessly. Here many who like fried food. It’s not good for football,” he said.

The PSIS Semarang team doctor who is also a former Indonesian national team doctor, Alfan Nur Asyhar, agrees with Motta’s opinion. Especially if the fried food consumed was purchased and not from the team’s recommendation.

“Most of the players buy fried foods outside. Usually the oil has been used many times. The Javanese term is used cooking oil. Used cooking oil has a high content of saturated fatty acids,” said Alfan.

“Then in the body’s metabolism it accumulates and it can be bad cholesterol [trigliserida, LDL]. The effects vary,” wrote Alfan in a written message to CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (6/1) afternoon.

According to Alfan, the effects that arise can make the athlete’s body experience blockage of blood vessels. If that happens in the end, oxygen nutrients circulating throughout the body will be hampered as well.

Furthermore, it affects the brain, because the intake of oxygen to the body and automatically to the brain is also reduced. This is what makes athletes highly recommended to avoid fried foods in the serving process.

“An athlete needs supplies [oksigen] fast and maximal, so that it affects the performance of the athlete. For example, their reaction to receiving instructions is a bit slow,” said Alfan.

This dropout from the Islamic University of Indonesia is of the opinion that Indonesian players can actually compete with players from abroad in terms of body resistance. It’s just that it depends on the lifestyle of the player.

“Actually, these Indonesian players can compete with foreign players such as Europe, Asia and Southeast Asia. It’s just that there are two problems, awareness and discipline need to be addressed,” wrote Alfan.

“Awareness in the sense that he is an athlete, he lives like an athlete. Starting from eating, resting, recovering, drinking, they must be aware, I am an athlete,” said the man who is part of the 2021/2022 Liga 1 Covid-19 Task Force.
