FIFA awards The Best awards: candidates, time, TV and everything you need to know

Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah and Robert Lewandowski are the three nominees for The Best award for the best footballer of 2021

This Monday football dresses up for the delivery of The Best, the prizes created by the FIFA to distinguish the best of each year. On this occasion, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony will be held virtually, but this will not make it any less important when taking into account that the most important footballers and coaches in the world will fight for a prize.

The eyes of the planet will be mainly on what happens in the men’s category that will reward the best soccer player of 2021. After an official nomination of 11 stars, the list was narrowed down to three candidates: the Argentine Lionel Messi, the Polish Robert Lewandowski and the egyptian Mohamed Salah.

The striker who last year moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in a historic transfer and conquered the America Cup with his country’s national team, he has just won his seventh Golden Ball, having been chosen by a group of specialists selected by the French magazine France Soccer above the gunner Bayern Munich. This time a new competitor is added, Wrong, who is a figure in the Liverpool and has had a brilliant second half of 2021.

Lewandowski won the award at the last ceremony, while Messi was awarded in 2019 by FIFA. It will be a close fight on this occasion since both, like the Egyptian, have had great performances, worthy of recognition. In addition, it will be the first time in this installment that Cristiano Ronaldo, winner of 2016 and 2017, is not among the ternados.

In this opportunity the votes are made up of four equal parts. One of the fans, who were able to choose their favorites on the official page of The Best, another of the votes cast by the captains of the teams that are part of FIFA, another by the coaches of those teams and the last by a journalist from each nation. As the vote is not secret, once the ceremony is over it will be possible to know the choice of each one.

In addition, the women’s category stands out in which the Spanish women from Barcelona will fight Jennifer Beautiful Y Alexia Putellas, together with the Australian from Chelsea Sam Kerr. There will also be space for the most outstanding coaches of 2021, the ideal Men’s and Women’s XI will be announced and there will be a Fair Play award and the Puskás for the best goal of the year.
