FC Bayern 2012 in a “crisis situation”

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented on the situation of FC Bayern in 2012 after two years without a title and spoke of a “crisis situation”. He sees this as “decisive” for the subsequent dominance of the FCB with nine championships in a row.

“We all went on vacation very dazed and were very disappointed,” recalled Rummenigge in an interview with him kicker to the summer of 2012, when FC Bayern first lost the cup final against BVB and later the CL final against FC Chelsea.

“The sting was deep,” said Rummenigge and stated that the Bayern bosses saw themselves forced to act. One of the things that came about was the record transfer Javi Martinez for around 40 million euros to Säbener Strasse.

The following dominance of Munich was later recognized by BVB in the person of Hans-Joachim Watzke. According to Rummenigge, the latter said to him: “We made a big mistake: We irritated you too much, and it was clear that the answer would not be long in coming …”
