“Covid appeared in the team, so Honza Šindelář was to go. He was waiting for the current PCR test from yesterday, the test was some 50 to 50, so with regard to caution and the spread of covid, the crew was not allowed into the race area,” the chairman told Czech Television. The contagion in the team will probably not allow Dvořák to start in the second race on Sunday. “The boys will most likely pack it all up and move to the Czech Republic, where they will do PCR tests again,” Bohman said.
Dvořák did not get the opportunity in Sigulda to follow up on the pre-Christmas twelfth place in Altenberg, which was his best result of the season. The Czech pilot is fifteenth in four of the eight races in the standings, and not participating in the two races can be a complication for his start at the Beijing Olympics.
“We have to come up with some variant B for both the next World Cup in Winterberg and the last ‘Světák’ in St. Moritz, because Dominik Dvořák has only four out of eight races so far, which might be hard enough for him to qualify for the Olympics.” said Bohman, looking at the next two World Races races the next two weekends.
The winning series of German Sovereign Francesco Friedrich ended unexpectedly in Sigulda on Saturday after 21 long races. The reigning Olympic champion, world champion and World Cup winner finished twelfth after mistakes at the start, the Russian Rostislav Gajtjukevič won.
