Before the kickoff of the match, small point on the numbers. If SIG Strasbourg had to do without its coach Lassi Tuovi and its pivot Yannis Morin, positive for covid-19, the Champagne team was not spared either. Indeed, Châlons-Reims saw itself deprived of its coach Cédric Heitz, Kameronn Selebangue and Ibrahim Dansoko for health reasons, as well as the injured Scottie Reynold but also Mike Henry.

It was therefore with only six pros and one hope that Châlons-Reims approached this meeting. Jarell Eddie opened the scoring at 3pts from the first seconds of the game (0-3, 0’30). The Strasbourg players displayed an organized and coherent game, but Châlons-Reims responded to equalize (10-10, 5 ‘). Then, the All Star Game continued on the floor of Pierre Coubertin with a 3pts competition between Gaylor Curier (6pts) and Enzo Goudou-Sinha (6pts). Gaylor Curier was invaluable in the Strasbourg attacking game (16-17, 7 ‘). Side Châlons-Reims, Gani Lawal sounded the revolt of his team with a 2 + 1 to take the advantage (19-17, 7’10). We were witnessing a “champagne basketball” with an impressive outside address on both sides of the field (71% for Champagne and 80% for Strasbourg) and the score clearly illustrated this stat ‘(24-24, 8’). A run from Strasbourg followed, inflicting a 2-7 on the Champenois (26-32, 9 ‘). By showing a good game with only 1 loss of ball and 8 assists, the SIGmen validated this first quarter. The second quarter saw Champagne Basket chain an 8-3 to equalize (34-34, 12 ‘). Despite their limited workforce, the Champagne team held up well to the SIGmen (40-40, 15 ‘). Frank Kuhn stopped the game to re-engage the players. The Bohacik / Mitchell duo were efficient and did the job to stay the course (40-45, 16 ‘). A technical foul was called against JB Maille and Enzo Goudou-Sinha converted on the throwing line to come back to height (45-45, 18 ‘). The arbitration chopped up the game offered on the floor Pierre Coubertin and Champagne Basket held this match thanks to the converted free throws (3/4 throws for Strasbourg against 10/14 for Champagne): 50-50, 19 ‘. The Champenois did not let go and remained in contact with the Strasbourg residents. Half time: 52-52 (score: 58-66).

The return from the locker room saw the Strasbourgers chain a 2-6 thanks to a triple from JB Maille and a 2 + 1 from Matt Mitchell (53-58, 22 ‘). Matt Mitchell turned into a serial shooter with an outside address with 63% success (58-63, 24 ‘). Another player stood out: JB Maille was on all fronts with 8 assists and 4 interceptions (62-68, 26 ‘). Carried by the duo Goudou-Sinha / Begarin, the players of Châlons-Reims did not allow themselves to be destabilized to get closer to 3pts (70-73, 29 ‘). After a 10-0, the Champenois returned to a small point at the fin du 3th quarter time: 72-73 (rating: 82-92)

The final quarter was starting and we had to be very serious! Well served by JB Maille who signed his 10th decisive assists, captain Lansdowne took his responsibilities (72-77, 32 ‘). But it was without counting on the return of the players from Châlons-Reims who made the switch of the match by taking the advantage (78-77, 32 ‘). Despite their reduced workforce, the Champenois showed no signs of fatigue in this last quarter (82-80). Gaylor Curier stopped Champagne’s confidence with a triple to regain the advantage (82-83, 34 ‘). Leo Cavalière offered us a huge poster WITH the fault! (84-86, 35 ‘).
