Christian Eriksen is not planning to give up his football dream after his cardiac arrest at the European Championship. On the contrary, the Dane hopes to be at the World Cup in Qatar in November. “I’m sure I can come back because I don’t feel any different,” he says.
Christian Eriksen who suddenly falls during the European Championship match between Denmark and Finland. They are images that still go to the marrow and bone. The 29-year-old Dane made a full recovery, but has since gone through life with a defibrillator.
Inter broke the midfielder’s contract because Serie A does not allow players with a defibrillator. But Eriksen does not intend to end his football career: he keeps fit on the field of the Swiss third division team FC Chiasso.
What does his future look like then? “My goal is to play at the World Cup in Qatar,” Eriksen surprised in an interview with the Danish television channel DR1. “That’s been my mindset all along: I want to play.”
It is up to the national coach to estimate my level, but my heart is not an obstacle.
“It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I get selected is a completely different matter. But my dream is to come back. I’m sure it’s possible because I don’t feel any different. Physically I’m back in top form.”
“The World Cup is only in November, so until then I will play football and prove that I am reaching my level again. I want to prove that the cardiac arrest was a one-off and will not happen again.”

Eriksen: “Support was unbelievable”
Christian Eriksen also came back in the interview to the weeks after his cardiac arrest at the European Championship and the many messages of support. “It was unbelievable that so many people felt the need to write or send flowers.”
“That made me very happy. In the hospital they kept saying that flowers had arrived again. I didn’t expect people to send flowers because I was dead for five minutes.”
