Former MLB player Sergio Miter initially tried to cover up his crime. But the evidence was overwhelming. He had inflicted serious injuries on little Inés. The findings read out in the process shocked.

Miter, who was convicted of domestic violence in 2019, initially tried to cover up the child’s death. The 40-year-old claimed it was an accident. All the excuses didn’t help: now he has to be behind bars for 50 years (the maximum sentence for femicide is 60 years), probably until the end of his life.

Miter must publicly apologize to mass media

In addition, Miter has to pay 1.3 million pesos (about 56,000 euros) in compensation to the family of the victim. Likewise, he must apologize publicly for his actions and his apology must be published in the mass media.

The father of two played in MLB between 2003 and 2011. The pitcher was under contract with clubs such as the Chicago Cubs, the Florida Marlins and most recently the New York Yankees. In 2009, when he made his first appearance with the Yankees, he was suspended for 50 games for doping.
