Badminton players Velo record important victory

The Velo badminton players have done well in the championship group of the Eredivisie.

The team from Wateringen won 5-3 at home against a somewhat limped Duinwijck. The Haarlem-squad missed three of their most important players.

The match was evenly matched halfway through. Velo had won the men’s doubles (Nick Fransman/Russell Muns) and a women’s singles match (Fredrika Lagerstedt), but lost the women’s doubles (Myke Halkema/Veda Diemel) and a men’s singles match (Ruben Kweekel).

In the second part, Velo still lost the second match in the women’s singles (Hanna Couwenhoven), but two wins in the mixed doubles (Jim Middelburg/Halkema and Muns/Milou Lugters) and Nick Fransman’s win in the men’s singles kept the victory in Wateringen. With that, the team of coach Franklin Telwin took revenge for the 6-2 loss in Haarlem last December.

With this victory, Velo remains in the race for a place in the semi-finals for the national championship. Drop Shot is now second with 28 points, behind that Duinwijck and Velo now have 24 points. Although the Haarlem team has played one game less.
