Ashley Barthy opened her season by winning singles and doubles at the Adelaide International Championships.
World leader Ashley Barthy withdrew from this week’s Sydney Classic on Monday after opening the season in the Adelaide International Championships in singles and doubles.
The 25-year-old girl has been pulled out of the revised lottery, and local reports say she needs to recover from her feats in Adelaide, and the Australian Open will begin in a week.
Barthya defeated Yelena Ribakin of Kazakhstan 6: 3 6: 2 in the 14th singles title and then returned to win a doubles match with Storm Sanders.
For Barthy, it was the first tournament in four months since she was shocked by the third round of the US Open in September, after which she chose to stay in Australia due to a pandemic.
But the reigning Wimbledon champion has returned to show why she would like to win her first Australian Open championship title.
Barthy beat some of the best players in the first half of the Adelaide draw, including Coco Gofu (19th in the world), Sofia Kenin (12) and Egu Sviatek (8) on their way to a decision.
Barbora Krejsikova, who is ranked 3rd in the world, will receive Garbini Mugurus with her first number in the first stage in Sydney.
Sydney’s former French Open Championship, who conceded to Barthy in the semi-finals of Adelaide, also left Sydney.
“After a very tense pre-season and last week’s tournament in Adelaide, I feel like my body needs more time to recover before the Australian Championships,” Paul said on Twitter.
“I was in pain in my lower ribs, so unfortunately I decided to leave the tournament in Sydney. See you in Melbourne! ”
Sviateka had to open a campaign in Sydney against US Open champion Emma Radokano, who missed last week’s Melbourne Summer Championship as she continued to recover from the coronavirus.
British Rybakina will play instead.
In the first matches in Sydney, the ninth racket of the world, Paula Padusa from Spain, defeated Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia with 6-6 (7/1), while Aneta Kontaveita, the fifth racket, defeated the Chinese Jan Shui with 6-3 with 6-3.
