Alison Van Uytvanck tests positive for coronavirus before leaving Australia

Alison Van Uytvanck cannot leave Australia for the time being. The number 55 in the world tested positive for the corona virus just before her return trip to Belgium.

Van Uytvanck was eliminated in the second round of the singles by the Chinese Qiang Wang (WTA 110). She stranded with the Danish Clara Tauson in the first round of the doubles. Van Uytvanck wanted to fly back to Belgium after her elimination, but the mandatory PCR test before departure yielded a positive result.

“I am now in isolation and follow all requirements,” writes 27-year-old Van Uytvanck on Instagram. “I have very mild symptoms and look forward to coming back stronger.”

Australia has strict rules for participants in the Australian Open. In principle, only vaccinated tennis players are allowed to participate.
