A very dangerous situation occurred over the weekend in Spanish hockey. Due to a snowmobile failure, 24 people, including young hockey players, ended up in carbon monoxide poisoning in the hospital.

Hockey Week 2022

Milenio Logrono arrived in the town of Puigcerda, which lies on the border with France, on Saturday to compete in the under-18 hockey competition. Apparently, before the match, the snowmobile broke down at the winter stadium, from which the gas that drives the snowmobile began to leak.

The participants of the hockey match did not find out immediately. At first, only one of the players who was treated by the rescue service was ill. It measured a high concentration of carbon monoxide in the air on the spot, so it called in security forces, which eventually evacuated the entire stadium.

At the time of the event, there were about 150 people, including two youth teams and one woman waiting for their match. Over the next tens of minutes, the rescuers had more and more work to do.

“One of the boys told me he wanted to vomit, and everyone else was very tired and had heavy heads. It was clear that the effects of intoxication were already beginning to appear on them, “Dr. Jaoine Gonzálezová, who traveled to the match with the Milenia team, which is also played by her son, told the Nuevecuatrouno server.

She was probably one of the first to realize the seriousness of the situation. “It could have been a tragedy. “Carbon poisoning is called ‘sweet death’ because you will be late,” she said.

Rescue rescuers’ final reports spoke of nine units arriving at the scene and 101 treated people, 24 of whom had been taken to the local emergency. Among them were players and spectators and stadium staff. However, no one had to stay in the hospital.

After night ventilation, the hall returned to normal operation on Sunday. The president of the home club immediately promised a repeated revision of the snowmobile. “But the mayor of Puigcerda assured us that it had recently been revised and found no defects,” added the club’s doctor from Logron.
