“Words” of the teacher who supported me “I have a mission to keep showing that figure”

Yuki Saito, who has been active in the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters (Fighters) for 11 years, has retired as a professional baseball player this season.
He pitched as a retirement match against Orix Buffaloes at Sapporo Dome, the home of the Fighters held on October 17th. After the match, a retirement ceremony was held, and many friends and fans sent him off and ended his active life.

Mr. Saito led the team as the ace of Waseda Jitsugyo High School at the 88th National High School Baseball Championship held in 2006. It led to the victory. In addition, he was nicknamed “Prince Handkerchief” because he wiped his sweat with a handkerchief during the game, and it became a hot topic that was nominated for the Top 10 Buzzword Awards.

Mr. Saito says that while he was active as an athlete for a long time, there were many scenes supported by “words”.

“In particular, I have always been supported by the words of Director Kuriyama (former director Hideki Kuriyama of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters),” said Saito.
The word is, “Become muddy and messed up. Until the end. Yuki has a mission to keep showing that. It may be hard now, but do your best.”

“During my 11 years as a professional, I was asked to say this word many times, and when I was having a hard time with no results, I remembered it on the mound and got power. When I finished throwing in the retirement game and returned to the bench When he said, “This is what Yuki kept showing,” he said, “I was moved and cried.”

Now that he has decided to retire and has finished his active life, he looks back on the words he has come into contact with and once again feels the importance of words.
