Wingsuit: Fred Fugen grazes the pyramids of Giza


Lhe Icarus dream has just been propelled into a whole new dimension. Dropped at 1,500 meters above sea level above the mythical pyramids of Giza and the statue of Khephren, the specialist in wingsuit flights and professional BASE jumper Fred Fugen, and his sidekick from Isère Vincent Cotte, former member of the French teams of skydiving, achieved a breathtaking wingsuit flight.

The two men, launched from a plane, split the Egyptian sky before starting a peak towards the ground at more than 250 km / h, grazing the only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world still visible today. A total of eight jumps were needed to deliver this breathtaking video. A world first.

“If until now parachute jumps were allowed at high altitudes in the skies above the pyramids, never before had a wingsuit flight been accomplished so close. It was absolutely incredible to brush against these stone giants, the last wonders of the ancient world still visible to this day. I felt so small in the face of so much immensity. I never imagined I would be able to do this flight one day… ”confides Fred Fugen, amazed.

He specifies: “If this project was possible, it is because the flight techniques and the equipment have evolved a lot recently. “Indeed, this jump imposed a final in“ resource ”. This maneuver, which consists of regaining altitude following a dive, Fred Fugen had documented in September 2020 in the video Resource, alongside Vince Reffet, his lifelong sidekick (who died a year ago during training), at the Coubre lighthouse (Charente-Maritime).
