I don’t know if Bayern could have been annoyed. I don’t know whether VfL would have had a chance with a significantly better performance in Munich. I don’t know whether the technical quality of the FCB stars would have been enough to dominate a physically robust opponent. I don’t know whether a team in which everything is right could have challenged the championship leaders differently.

I really don’t know any of this. But I would have liked to find out that Friday night. VfL didn’t give me a chance.
A Wolfsburg appearance in Munich has seldom been so lifeless. That at some point during a game you realize that you have no chance, that can happen. In this case, however, VfL seemed to have seen this before kick-off. No cheering, no encouraging, no standing up. None of them showed anything encouraging, no fire in their eyes, not even frustration.

The team seemed mentally tired and listless. And the fact that VfL had a few chances doesn’t help either – because they forgave them the way they had played: discouraged and without any belief in their own quality. It is good news that it is now winter break – but only if anyone thinks of how to wake up this team during this break.
