Willem van Hanegem makes an ‘impressive appeal’ to the supporters of Feyenoord in the week of the Classic. Steven Berghuis will return to De Kuip with Ajax next Sunday.
Van Hanegem is looking forward to the Classic. ‘Steven Berghuis is coming to De Kuip and last summer people in Rotterdam saw it as a mountain. But that has changed. Feyenoord has a serious chance’, says De Kromme in his column for Algemeen Dagblad.
“I do make an urgent appeal to all people who have something with Feyenoord, towards the Classic between the women on Saturday and the real Classic on Sunday,” he adds. “Don’t give anyone the slightest reason to point at you. I know that pointing is sometimes very unjustified, but put your heads together and make sure that the Ajax bus comes to Rotterdam normally.’
‘And leave Berghuis alone next week’, says Van Hanegem. “That boy made a sensitive choice, but that’s no reason to threaten him. His departure has been good for both sides. The Feyenoord players feel much freer without him and Berghuis is at home at Ajax. He himself will be wise on Sunday not to provoke. Take it like Tyrell Malacia played Antony last season: sharp but fair.’
Feyenoord is one point behind Ajax in the Eredivisie ranking. Van Hanegem: ‘Let the Classic be a great battle, but without exaggerating. And if you would win, then Ajax suddenly has fifteen loss points and Berghuis is also in the ranking below Feyenoord. That must be the motivation.’
