Unexpectedly, Honda and Yamaha are interested in copying the technology used by Aprilia motorbikes: Okezone Sports

AMSTERDAM – Teams as big as Honda and Yamaha are reportedly eager to emulate the technology used by Aprilia bikes. This is known based on the confession of a former Aprilia technician, Jan Witteveen who said the two major Japanese manufacturers were in fact very interested in what Aprilia had.

Aprilia’s performance in MotoGP 2021 is quite good. Although they ended the bottom line in the constructors’ standings, their drivers, namely Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales, managed to break into the top 10 in the standings this season.

Espargaro closed the 2021 MotoGP season by sitting in eighth place with a collection of 120 points and successfully won one podium. While Vinales who came in the middle of the season was ranked 10th.

So, you could say the performance of the Italian factory team is starting to show its tajir. Their performance is also quite consistent. As a team from the European continent, it is proven that they are able to compete with teams from Asia such as Yamaha and Honda.

Witteveen, who was once part of Aprilia, said that currently the technology owned by the Italian manufacturer has increased. He even said that Yamaha and Honda wanted to emulate their current technology. However, Witteveen felt that the Japanese factory team could not imitate him well.

“We (Aprilia) have come to a point where the Japanese are interested in our technology. Yamaha and Honda are trying to imitate Aprilia,” said Witteveen, quoted from Motosan, Wednesday (12/29/2021).

“But none of them really work well, because Japanese manufacturers do what they want, which is to imitate,” he said.

“When you copy someone else’s work, you have to be very good at it if you want to get the same results you want to copy,” continued Witteveen.

Of course, it’s interesting what Witteveen said because a team as big as Yamaha and Honda actually tried to imitate what Aprilia did. Even though Aprilia has only performed well in the last few years.
