MTK, the promotion company of Congolese boxer Martin Bakole, formalized his fight against Frenchman Tony Yoka on January 15 in Paris. The DRC heavyweight replaces Cameroonian Carlos Takam, forfeit. Bakole and Yoka are neck and neck in the international professional boxing rankings.
The clash between Tony Yoka and Martin Bakole will finally take place. It will be January 15 in Paris Bercy between two rising values in the heavyweights of English boxing.
On the one hand, the 29-year-old Frenchman, who won his first 11 fights among the pros, including 9 before the limit. Tony Yoka is best known for winning super heavyweight gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
On the other, the Congolese from the DRC, 28 years old, 17 victories including 13 by KO, 1 defeat. The Kananga native holds the International belt of the WBC, one of the four largest professional boxing federations.
A fight that has already almost happened
This confrontation had already almost happened. At the end of October, Martin Bakole’s coach, Billy Nelson, assured on social networks that he had received a proposal from Tony Yoka’s entourage. The two clans did not agree, however.
Yoka and his team had other leads, however. One of them led to Carlos Takam. The 40-year-old Cameroonian, who also defends the colors of France, was to be Yoka’s opponent on January 15. But the veteran was injured and the Bakole track was therefore reactivated, as revealed on the site lequipe.fr on December 8.
Tony Yoka remains on a September 10 victory against the Croatian Petar Milas, while Martin Bakole dominated in the first round the modest Ghanaian Haruna Osumanu on September 18. The winner of this shock should take the opportunity to jump to the top 10 of the various heavyweight rankings.
