The U-20 World Hockey Championship has been canceled due to Covid-19

The IIHF reports that, following the recommendation of the Covid-19 Medical Group and the IIHF Medical Committee, the IIHF Council has decided that the 2022 World Junior Championships will be canceled to ensure the health and safety of all participants due to the spread of Covid-19 and the coronavirus omicron.

The decision follows a positive case of the Covid-19 test in the Russian national team, which would have led to a technical loss to Russia’s and Slovakia’s game scheduled for Wednesday. This match would be the third match after the Swiss – US and Finnish – Czech matches, which would be canceled due to positive Covid-19 analyzes.

In order to ensure the health and safety of the tournament participants, the IIHF Council has concluded that the sporting side of the event is endangered by another technical loss within two days and the event must be canceled.

It has already been reported that the USA suffered a 0: 1 technical loss to Switzerland on Tuesday, but on Wednesday such a fate awaited the Czech Republic in a game against Finland.

A year ago, behind closed doors, the United States won the title of champion in Edmonton, leaving Canada in second place and Finland in third place.
