the stele of the founder of the old stadium had made Michel Daerden go crazy

It is a stele which had an eventful life and whose history still agitates social networks today: that of Oscar Flesch, the founder of the former stadium of the Football Club Liégeois in Rocourt. At the end of the 90s, when the Vélodrome stadium was demolished with a view to building the Kinepolis, this monument was saved, moved, even “kidnapped”, but in recent years, we had lost track of it.

However, this stele does not go unnoticed: it weighs 7 tons! But it is stored in an unexpected place, in the gardens of a cultural space, Le Hangar, quai St-Léonard in Liège. It is not entirely the result of the accident because its manager, Vincent Cotteleer, was an emblematic figure of the clubs of supporters of the number 4. “After the stadium was demolished, this stele was stored for a while. And then in the 2000s, at the time of the late Michel Daerden, we were promised to build a new stadium in Ans. This stele was placed there as a first stone, in front of two thousand enthusiastic supporters. But the promise was not kept. Out of rage, we went to unearth this stele and replaced it with a large puppet bearing the likeness of Michel Daerden! We then went to drop it off in front of the stairs of the town hall of Liège in order to block access and question the Liège authorities. We ended up repatriating her to where she is now. It took a long time, but the city of Liège has finally taken the matter seriously. We can hope to have a home before we die!“. A” home “, understand a new large stadium in Rocourt where blood and navy supporters hope to replace this famous stele.
