London – Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was knighted by Prince Charles. He received the award three days after the end of the season in which he lost his record eighth title in the final round of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Thirty-six-year-old Hamilton was knighted today at Windsor Castle. He was passed as the fourth Formula 1 driver in history. Before him, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham received this honor.

Hamilton was able to win the eighth title on Sunday and become the leader of the most successful drivers ahead of Michael Schumacher, but after several controversial decisions by the race management, Max Verstappen of the Red Bull rejoiced in the title.

Mercedes protested against the verdicts, but was rejected. The German team immediately announced that it would appeal. However, she has not officially done so yet and, according to the rules, she only has time until Thursday evening.
