The women’s team of Tarnovia last season won the coveted promotion to the Ekstraliga. Despite many obstacles, including financial problems, the newbies did not do too badly. They finished the last round in tenth place with nine points on their account. On Tuesday it became known that Tarnovia would no longer play in the competition as the club decided to withdraw the women’s team from the league.
The players made a statement on this matter, below we present its content:
“Late in the evening on December 7, we received information that our team is withdrawn from the Ekstraliga competition today. Without any attempts to fight for what we have worked for all our lives.
Let’s start from the beginning.
At the end of the previous round, we received the devastating news that the President and the man who started the women’s football section in Tarnów from scratch and was supporting us all the time, lost to the disease. The existence and functioning of the excellently developing women’s football section, envied by many centers in Poland, was put into question. Despite this, we managed to win the coveted promotion to the Ekstraliga on the basis of players from Tarnow or the nearest neighborhood.
The new club authorities, headed by President Magdalena Pasek, presented us with a bright future. The euphoria quickly passed, the club started to face problems (mainly of organizational nature), which almost led to the resignation from playing in Ekstraliga. After very hard beginnings, we started in the last round and finished it in 10th place with 9 points, which is an unprecedented result for the newcomer, especially in women’s football.
The more so because despite the announcements of the club’s management, the renovation of the Tarnovia stadium was not completed and we played all matches as the host in Wola Rzędzińska. Also the training possibilities were far from ideal, because the quarter of the side pitch in the dark is far from the realities of extra league. In addition, we could not count too much on the training staff, because our team was based on only one coach, and the staffs of other teams consist of five such people.
Going further, the salaries for the game were not enough for us to travel to training and matches. However, we still wanted to save Ekstraliga for Tarnów at all costs and play for this team.
Today we receive such a message, and the only explanation is the lack of financial resources and OUR ATTITUDE. No one from the club’s management even tried to talk to us, no one asked for ideas for the current situation, no one was looking for an attempt to solve this situation. Nobody just wanted to. We only heard that the team is withdrawing and there is no option to wait with this decision. The more strange and incomprehensible the situation is that the main reason for the withdrawal of the team is the lack of funds for the functioning of this team. And in fact, only in a month will it be possible to say what funds from the subsidies for the team will be allocated by the city of Tarnów, but apparently the club’s authorities already know that they will be insufficient.
We feel hurt, we still want to fight for this team and declare to play the upcoming round under the same conditions as we have been so far, and we were assured that this is how we would be able to function until the end of the season. We wanted to assure the fans who were with us throughout the round that we would not leave it without a fight and an attempt to maintain what somehow enjoys not only us, but also the local community.
