The quintessential event for the month of April in Barcelona changes its date. The organization of the Zurich Marató de Barcelona has decided to postpone the marathon that was to be held on April 3. It will be done a month later, on the 8th, for health and organizational reasons.

The organizers have run into two pitfalls. The first of them is that the RFEA Spanish championship coincides with the starting date of the Barcelona marathon. The second is purely sanitary. With the new omicron variant on the rise, the organization fears a drop in the number of international athletes.

The other race affected is the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona. The test will be held on Sunday, April 3, instead of March 6 as originally planned. In this way, the participants of the Zurich Marató Barcelona will have the Half Marathon within the training plan, 4 weeks into the race as usual. This reason has also been another of the determining elements in the change of date, since it has been tried to guarantee the viability of both races.

The organization believes that the new date will allow “more time and better conditions for the sports preparation of the essential athletes for these long-distance events.”
