The arrogance of Tom Brady that ended the perfect Patriots season

Patriots was a team that already had 3 Super Bowls and a 28-year-old QB with all the future in the NFL. After a season in which they failed to reach the championship, they had to do their best to put together the best team for Tom Brady.

And so did Bill Belichick, one of the missing pieces was a receiver and yes, they had Wes Welker, but they were missing something. Randy Moss had a chance to get to the Patriots and Tom Brady did not hesitate to give the go-ahead on the receiver to his head coach.

Lots of experience and 3 Super Bowls make your confidence soar to the sky. Also, when the weeks go by and all you do is win, win and accumulate records in your regular season … everything is easier. Tom Brady and his Patriots looked invincible.

Bill Belichick’s mindset one game at a time was overshadowed by the Queen song “Another one bites the dust”. Week after week they crushed their rivals and they knew they would, but they never lost the floor, much less Tom Brady.

Perfect season? No one has ever done it in NFL history, but no record is too small for Tom Brady and during 16 games they were absolutely unbeatable in the NFL, even in the most difficult game, the last meeting against the Giants in week 17.

No one scored more points than they did in the regular season, 598 total for Tom Brady on offense. 50 touchdown passes for the GOAT in the 2007 season and really all the teams saw and felt that aura of invincibility in the Patriots.

They maintained their undefeated status during the NFL playoffs. They added two more victories to their record and were 18-0, they only had one game left to be immortal and the first team in football history to win each and every game, including the Super Bowl.

Brady and his arrogance that brought out the best in Giants

If there was any team that put the Patriots’ perfect regular season at risk, it was the Giants in Week 17. So when, NY was the team that made it to the Super Bowl against Tom Brady, the game had overtones of revenge.

The Patriots were the team that averaged more than 30 points in pro-game offense, they were a machine and when they Plaxico Burress, receiver for the Giants, before Super Bowl XLII was asked about his prognosis for the scoreboard he said: 23-17 in favor of Giants.

Tom Brady reacted to that prediction to the media, but he did so with a wry laugh because he felt 17 were too few for those Patriots. The Giants defense didn’t take that mocking laugh well and in the Super Bowl, they would go out of their way to make Tom Brady miss out on a field day., as the QB thought.

With pressure and aggressiveness, The Giants managed to repeatedly hit Tom Brady and didn’t let him do more than just 14 points in four quarters.. With two seconds left, Eli Manning, Plaxico Burress and David Tyree took to the field to convert a score of 14-10 for the Patriots to a 17-14 for the Giants.

After a dramatic escape from Eli Manning to four defenders and possibly the best catch in NFL history, the famous’Helmet Catch’, the Giants were placed in an unbeatable position to make the TD and break Tom Brady’s idea of perfect season.
