Tennis: Medvedev leads Russians to Davis Cup triumph

Led by world number 2 Daniil Medvedev, Russia wins the Davis Cup for the third time. In Madrid, the Russians won the final of the most important team competition in men’s tennis on Sunday against Croatia, the victory is already clear after the two singles. The men are crowning a strong year in tennis in Russia after the women won the Billie Jean King Cup (formerly Fed Cup) around four weeks ago.

At the start of the finals, world number five Andrej Rublew defeated the underdog Borna Gojo 6: 4, 7: 6, before US Open winner Medvedev made everything clear with a 7: 6 (9: 7), 6: 2 over Marin Cilic. The double is no longer necessary.
